In My Shoes With Frankie Cena

Having strutted his stuff as contestant and host at Mister World and Miss World for years, Canadian singer, TV personality and influencer Frankie Cena knows how to make a style statement (hint: it involves a seriously impressive collection of showstopping suits and bow ties!)

In our latest In My Shoes feature, Frankie chats to us about his love of the entertainment biz, stepping out of his style comfort zone, and how a perfectly fitting blazer is just the thing for a confidence boost.

Tell us about yourself? What makes you tick?

For the most part, I'm a workaholic. I'm always working on upcoming entertainment projects and focusing on my business back in Vancouver, all while maintaining a social life in my new home of Toronto. I love board games and game shows. I have over 100 board games so I love to host game nights for friends. As for what makes me tick... I have misophonia which is the hatred of sounds. It honestly causes fights sometimes because I just can't handle certain noises like chewing or tapping. (Sorry to my friends and family!) A positive tick is just my love of life and always wanting to do more with it.

How has your dress sense evolved? What has (or hasn’t) influenced it.

To be completely honest, my daily style has only recently evolved. I never put a great amount of time or effort into my OOTDs because I didn't know where to start. I think it can be difficult for men to navigate the fashion scene if you're not immersed in it. After shifting careers to pursue entertainment, I wanted to stand out. I started dressing outside of my comfort zone with bolder patterns and accessories I wouldn't normally pair together. It was quite liberating.

Show us your wardrobe staple, what can’t you live without?

I definitely need my suits & (bow)ties. Having been on the Miss World stage for several years, my suits were my staple pieces. I've accumulated somewhat of an impressive collection ranging from bright pink and paint splattered suits to peacock feather bow ties. I love finding that blazer that fits perfectly and it immediately gives me a confidence boost for whatever occasion.

Casual or dressy?

I'm a sucker for comfy gym shorts and tanks. But I do love dressing up and going the whole nine yard with layers, shiny dress shoes and product in my hair. I'm not really a middle of the road person - I'm all in or all out, so I'd say that is very much mirrored in my style choices.

Do you have a big splurge?

Not being the biggest fan of shopping nor having the time to do so regularly, I'm a "buy it all at once" kind of guy. Just recently, I took a trip to Vegas and purchased, some may say, too many sparkly statement pieces that will definitely be making their debut at the right time. When I say sparkly, I mean disco, blinding sparkly!

What does ‘style’ mean to you?

Style is expression. Style is how you feel that day. Style is how you want others to see you. Style can change your attitude for the day and I think that's pretty powerful.
